The Hair Dream Queen!

From the age of 16, Jill had always dreamed of being a hairdresser. After 30 years in Customer Service roles she decided to follow that dream and returned to college. She enrolled in Peterborough Regional College on a full time course in Ladies Hairdressing at Level 2 and completed an Apprenticeship at Level 3. She was honoured to receive the award for Career Change Apprentice of the Year at Peterborough Cathedral. Jill then followed up with a Level 3 course in Barbering. During her time at college she also gained 4 years in-salon experience, so in September 2019 it was time for her to take the plunge and start her own business.

I went back into it at the age of 45 at college with 16-18 year olds and started from scratch again, it doesn’t matter what age you are you can achieve whatever you want.

Jill found a unit within Peterborough Workspace, a not for profit organisation supporting start up businesses and Little Bird Hair Design was born. Since opening, she has been a semi-finalist in the Fellowship of British Hairdressers ‘Time to Shine’ competition and a finalist in the Peterborough Small Business Awards 2020. Jill currently works with her clients on a one to one basis and covers all aspects of Hairdressing and Barbering. Her new dream is to expand, employing up and coming new stylists and colourists and to support them on their journey.

My philosophy has always been, that if you don’t like your job, find a new one. Why waste your life being unhappy? Do your research, have a plan and set a goal with a time limit. Mine was to have my own salon by the time I was 50 and it felt so good on my birthday weekend to finally realise my ultimate dream.
